Luggage can be categorized as carry-on (21″), medium (23″ to 26″), and large (27″ to 32″). While the length of your trip may be a factor in your luggage choice, there are at least two other factors that will influence your decision.

Many airlines have size and weight restrictions on carry-on and checked bags, so you’ll have to take that into account when making your decision. If you’re driving or taking the train, you may have more flexibility in both size and weight, although you may still be comfortable with lighter luggage.
