Food for Thought: How to Choose the Right Table
With spring on the horizon, I’m looking to clean out my home of things I don’t use, and some household or fashion items can cheer me up. Today I focus on the dining room or kitchen dining area and discuss how to find the right dining table style for your family’s needs.
Dining tables come in a variety of designs, and the first thing you need to do is take a look at the dining area as a whole and think about which shape of table would work best. Once you decide on the shape, you can think about the size, color and type of material you want for the table.
table shape
My dining room is large because it’s open to the formal living room so any shape table would fit in there, but one of my family members gave me a large rectangular farmhouse table made of walnut , with a removable leaf on it, works well and has sentimental value.
If you love to entertain or often host large family dinners, a dining table with removable leaves will provide extra seating when needed. This reclaimed wood extendable dining table has rustic charm and looks lovely in a large dining area.
Another option is an oval table. A sleek, rounded look may be more your style, and they also come in a variety of sizes to fit your room. For some reason, I also find that without the square corners they look a bit smaller.
I have a much smaller nook in my kitchen for a table and I have a small round table with 4 chairs that fit perfectly. My kitchen also has a door that leads to the back yard, so we also have a long shoe rack running along one wall. With access and shoe areas, a round table makes it easy to move around, but there are also some great little square tables that are perfect for family dinners every night.
Choose the correct table size
Rectangular Dining Tables When shopping for a new dining table, it’s important to consider how you’ll be using the table the most and how much space you want it to accommodate. Maybe you just need a table big enough for your family dinner every night, an extra seat or two if your kids like to have friends over for dinner, or you like to host dinner parties, or your The house is the first choice for large family gatherings.
If you start with an empty space, you can lay out the size and shape of the table by using painters tape on the floor so you have a good idea of how the table will look in the space. Then simply measure the tape layout with a tape measure to get the perfect table size for your space.
table design
According to your home environment and personal taste, you can choose a dining table made of wood, glass, cement or other materials.
Cement topped table and counter tops are increasingly popular for a super modern and industrial look. I adore this rectangular dining table with a concrete top. The mix of wooden legs and concrete top is the perfect mix of rustic and modern, and it’s big enough to seat 6 – 8 people.
Another great design is transition sets. Transitional pieces can be styled to fit any design, this Clayton transitional 5-piece dining set is elegant and stylish in dark rich merlot and high back upholstered chairs. The cross design on the back of the chair is an eye-catcher, and the creamy microfiber looks fresh and is easy to clean.
A beautiful dining table is the first step in your dining room design. With beautiful linens, tableware, and the right lighting and accessories, you can put together an amazing eating and entertaining space.
